ACM UMAP is the premier international conference for researchers and practitioners working on systems that adapt to individual users or to groups of users, and which collect, represent, and model user information. Tutorials are intensive instructional sessions that provide a comprehensive introduction to established or emerging research topics of interest for the UMAP community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We encourage both researchers and industry practitioners to submit tutorial proposals. We strongly suggest involving presenters from different institutions, bringing different perspectives to the tutorial topic. We welcome tutorials with a creative structure to ensure rich interactions and hands-on tutorials (e.g., through the use of notebooks that combine theoretical concepts with practical exercises).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Researchers and practitioners interested in submitting a tutorial proposal are invited to contact us in advance, so we can help to design successful proposals. In particular, for tutorial proposals with novel interactive formats, we are happy to assist in further developing and implementing the ideas and check with the conference organizers the feasibility of them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"important-dates\">Important Dates<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Proposals due: <s>January 27, 2022<\/s><\/li><li>Notification to proposers: <s>February 10, 2022<\/s><\/li><li>Send the tutorial description &amp; website URL: <s>February 24, 2022<\/s><\/li><li>Tutorial summary camera-ready deadline: May 18, 2022<\/li><li>Tutorial day: July TBD, 2022<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>All deadlines are 11:59pm, AoE time (Anywhere on Earth).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"tutorial-topics\">Tutorial Topics<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>New user modeling technologies, methods, techniques, and trends (e.g. exploiting data mining and big data analytics for user modeling, evaluation methodologies, data visualization, etc.).<\/li><li>User modeling and personalization techniques for specific domains (e.g., health, e-government, e-commerce, cultural heritage, education, internet of things, mobile, music, information retrieval, human-robot interaction etc.).<\/li><li>Application and impact of the user modeling and personalization techniques for information retrieval and recommender systems, including beyond-accuracy aspects (e.g., fairness).<\/li><li>Eliciting and learning user preferences by taking into account users\u2019 emotional state, physical state, personality, trust, cognitive factors.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"instructions-for-proposers\">Instructions for Proposers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>An ideal tutorial should be broad enough to provide a basic introduction to the chosen area, but it should also cover the most important topics in depth.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tutorial proposals should be in <strong>English<\/strong>, not exceed <strong>5 pages (4 pages plus 1 extra page for references),<\/strong> and submitted in a<strong> single-column<\/strong> format based on the following templates:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>LaTeX<\/strong>:<br><a href=\"https:\/\/www.acm.org\/binaries\/content\/assets\/publications\/consolidated-tex-template\/acmart-primary.zip\">https:\/\/www.acm.org\/binaries\/content\/assets\/publications\/consolidated-tex-template\/acmart-primary.zip<\/a><\/li><li><strong>Overleaf <\/strong>(use \\documentclass[manuscript,review]{acmart} for single-column):<br><a href=\"https:\/\/www.overleaf.com\/latex\/templates\/acm-conference-proceedings-master-template\/pnrfvrrdbfwt\">https:\/\/www.overleaf.com\/latex\/templates\/acm-conference-proceedings-master-template\/pnrfvrrdbfwt<\/a><\/li><li><strong>MS Word<\/strong>:<br><a href=\"https:\/\/www.acm.org\/binaries\/content\/assets\/publications\/taps\/acm_submission_template.docx\">https:\/\/www.acm.org\/binaries\/content\/assets\/publications\/taps\/acm_submission_template.docx<\/a>&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Tutorial proposals should contain the following information:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Tutorial title and acronym.<\/li><li>Tutorial presenter(s) name, affiliation, and email address.<\/li><li>Tutorial abstract (up to 200 words).&nbsp;<\/li><li>Keywords (at least 3).<\/li><li>Motivation and relevance to UMAP.<\/li><li>Aims and learning objectives.&nbsp;<\/li><li>Target audience (introductory, intermediate, advanced) and prerequisite knowledge or skills.<\/li><li>Detailed bulleted outline of the tutorial structure and activities (this should take the most space).<\/li><li>Tutorial duration, organized in time blocks of 1.5 hours (it is suggested to use 2 time blocks at maximum; proposals for longer tutorials should be accompanied by an appropriate motivation).&nbsp;<\/li><li>Presenters with a brief bio (3-4 sentences) of each with respect to the content of the tutorial. In case of more than four presenters, please justify the need of each contribution.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li><li>Tutorial history (previous offerings of tutorial, if any) and how the proposed tutorial differs.<\/li><li>Any other relevant information to support your proposal (e.g., required resources).<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>After acceptance notification, organizers of accepted tutorials are expected to (a) provide a link to the tutorial website containing information about the tutorial organization, timeline and, close to the conference dates, the material, (b) be responsible for their own publicity, (c) write a short tutorial summary to be included in the conference proceedings, and (d) run the tutorial at the conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please note that all the accepted tutorials should support both virtual and physical attendance (although we hope physical attendance to be the preferred option for participants).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"submission-guidelines\">Submission Guidelines<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Tutorial proposals should be submitted in PDF via <a href=\"https:\/\/easychair.org\/conferences\/?conf=umap22\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/easychair.org\/conferences\/?conf=umap22\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">EasyChair<\/a> (instructions will be provided).&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"proceedings-and-registration-policy\">Proceedings and Registration Policy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Detailed information about the registration types and costs about tutorial presenters will be provided.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"tutorial-chairs\">Tutorial Chairs<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Mirko Marras, University of Cagliari, Italy<\/li><li>Elvira Popescu, University of Craiova, Romania<\/li><li>Contact: <a href=\"mailto:umap2022-wt@um.org\">umap2022-wt@um.org<\/a>&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ACM UMAP\u201922 is pleased to invite proposals for tutorials to be given in conjunction with the conference.
