This initiative aims to reduce financial barriers for students as well as early-career researchers from economically developing countries, thus enabling broader participation in conferences and creating a more inclusive academic community.<\/span><\/p><h3><b>Eligibility criteria<\/b><\/h3><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most grants are open to all MSc and PhD students, as well as to postdoctoral researchers or non-tenured professionals who are residents in any of the countries listed at <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/services.acm.org\/public\/qj\/proflevel\/countryListing.cfm\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">https:\/\/services.acm.org\/public\/qj\/proflevel\/countryListing.cfm<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The only exception are the <\/span><b>NSF<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> grants: only <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">student authors studying in the US<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are eligible to receive an NSF student travel grant.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The grant may be used to support travel to the conference, including flights, accommodation costs, and other costs related to obtaining a VISA. The size of the grant awarded to an individual may vary depending on various factors such as the number of qualified applicants or the distance travelled. Applicants may submit their application <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">prior<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to learning whether their papers have been accepted. However, preference will be given to individuals who have an accepted paper and who will be presenting that work themselves.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Applications will be reviewed by a committee composed of the UMAP 2026 General Chairs and Student Volunteer Chairs. US-based applicants for the NSF grant will be assessed by Yong Zheng.<\/span><\/p><h3><b>Application process<\/b><\/h3><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Applications for a travel grant should include:<\/span><\/p><ul><li aria-level=\"1\"><b>A completed application form. <\/b>The application form (<a style=\"font-size: 16px; background-color: #ffffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1ZI1Rh5OuugGCeAkD3BbLVINN8t33gN8E\/view?usp=sharing\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">link<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) is labeled SIGWEB but will be used for all travel applications.<\/span><\/li><li aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1-2 page CV<\/span><\/li><li aria-level=\"1\"><b>A list of other sources of travel funding the researcher has applied for <\/b>Students are free to apply for other sources of travel funding in addition to the current application (e.g., Gary Marsden Travel Award (see further down), a travel grant by your own national science foundation). Please include these in your application as a separate document (if relevant).<\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You do not have to specify which sponsorship source (e.g., SIGWEB, UM, Springer, NSF) you wish to apply for; the review committee will use their combined resources to support as many students as possible in attending UMAP 2026. Please note that the Gary Marsden Travel Award should be applied for through a separate process described further down on this page. It is named in memory of Gary Marsden, a Professor of Computer Science at the University of Cape Town (UCT) in South Africa.<\/p><p>This grant is not directly administered by ACM UMAP 2026, so it meets different rules and deadlines. Please refer to the following.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-89f96f3 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"89f96f3\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h3><b>Important dates<\/b><\/h3><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Submission deadlines:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> January 9, February 9, March 9, May 9, July 9, September 9, November 9<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Notification deadline:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> One month after the deadline (two weeks for priority VISA applications)<\/span><\/li><\/ul><h3><b>Procedure<\/b><\/h3><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students must apply to a deadline that occurs more than one month prior to the start of the conference that you plan to attend. For UMAP 2026, that is <\/span><b>March 9<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, because UMAP 2026 starts June 8, so May 9 is less than one month prior to the conference start.
